Job Description

Reports to: Humanitarian Affairs and Relief Office (HARO) Director

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Disaster and Emergency Relief: In coordination and guidance from the DHAR assist in building grant management capacity.
Respond to sudden onset and complex humanitarian emergencies
Assist in relief program design and then manage with local MAP management or MAP relief partner
Respond to and access “in the field” emergency grants for emergencies when appropriate
Plan relief grant hand over program to local office staff and fundraising team
Program Development, Management and Maintenance
Assist in the development and implementation of public health in emergency capacity building
Design and assist in management of projects in coordination with local offices and MAP fundraising team
Provide strong public health and/ or wat/ san technical support to relief programs
Implement and maintain the timeliness of all programs in progress
Compile monthly and annual program reports when needed
Monitoring budgets for relief projects in coordination with finance team
Represent MAP International at consortiums, donor and government sessions in relief settings
Provide and manage strategic relationships in locations as a means of information collection
Maintain communication with the Country Director(s) on all aspects of relief grant programming
Keep abreast of developments in the Disaster and Relief sectors of the global health community
Focus and Compliance: Ensure that MAP’s emergency relief programs are planned and implemented in ways that serve MAP’s commitment to the promotion of Total Health, and that comply with applicable standards of governmental and UN donors/ partners.

Help to identify relief partners donors in the field whose philosophies and practices are compatible with MAP’s Total Health commitment and with MAP’s Mission and Guiding Principles.
Work with field offices to link with Global Relief Alliance (GRA) partners
Assist DHAR in monitoring and evaluating disaster/emergency responses in light of Total Health criteria.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelors or Master’s degree, or equivalent, in a health science field, public health
At least 3-5 years grant management experience in program/project management experience: previous relief field experience required
Specific knowledge of donor requirements, project start up, early warning and disaster preparedness methodologies and tools
Broad-based knowledge of international relief and development programming
Strong background in public health concepts, logframe approach, M&E systems, public health and wat/san methodologies in emergencies

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; team oriented
Good computer skills (especially Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook)
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse faith-based and secular groups
Strong skills in leading and facilitating collaborative work, and supervising diverse work groups
Excellent communication skills, written and oral. Demonstrated success in cross-cultural communication
Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and appropriate flexibility
Emotional maturity and physical stamina
Able to travel internationally, often under difficult circumstances and with minimal advance notice
Good financial and emergency relief administrative skills
Confident, self-starter and able to work independently
Excellent organizational skills with ability to successfully manage multiple tasks
Strong command of English essential, knowledge of French, Spanish, or Arabic desirable
