COMMUNICATION SPECIALIST P-4

UNICEF, the world’s leading organization working for the rights of children, seeks a Communication Specialist, for our Supply Division, based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The future incumbent will, under the general guidance of the Chief of the Centre, be responsible for the development, planning, implementation and monitoring of internal and external communication and knowledge management strategies in support of Supply Operations.

The duties include:
1. Supporting Supply Division’s efforts in internal communication and knowledge management by developing, implementing and monitoring new strategies and activities that will reinforce the global supply team and contribute to enhancing the efficiency of business processes.
2. Setting and monitoring standards for knowledge management and internal communication between Supply Division and Field/Regional Offices and Headquarters.
3. Ensuring that all Supply Division Centres receive technical support and guidance in the development of communication (internal and external) and knowledge management strategies and materials.
4. Coordinating Supply Division’s external communication, including external visits (excluding suppliers’ visits) and media queries and visits. Leading and overseeing the development of appropriate communication materials, including annual and quarterly reports, to support the Director and Supply Division in communication, advocacy and knowledge sharing. Advising the Director of Supply Division on sensitive issues related to communication. Co-ordinating media work with other U.N. agencies in Copenhagen as and when required.
5. Developing partnerships and close collaboration with National Committees.
6. Co-ordinating with New York Division of Communication and the Geneva Communication Section to ensure that they receive relevant inputs on the work of Supply Division and supplies, especially in times of emergency, by providing accurate information in a timely manner. Generating stories and providing inputs for UNICEF global communication and fundraising efforts.

Qualifications and Competencies:
- Advanced university degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or Knowledge Management; or equivalent professional work experience in the area of communication or knowledge management, combined with a university degree in development or related fields.
- Strong commercial background with technical knowledge and procurement expertise of related commodities and supplies.
- Minimum eight years professional experience at management level in information/communication or knowledge management at international level and exposure preferably with the UN and /or in an international environment.
- Experience in commercial activities with the public or private sector in developing and industrialized countries.
- Knowledge of current theories and practices in communication and knowledge management - including new media.
- Proven ability to conceptualize, plan and execute ideas, as well as impart knowledge and teach skills.
- Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with external partners, including media representatives, donors and other UNICEF partners.
- Strong drive for results and ability to follow up.
- Proven ability to lead and work as part of a team.
- Proven ability to innovate and manage change.
- Extensive experience in expressing clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form; specific skills in writing for traditional and electronic media.
- Knowledge of computer systems, including internet navigation, office applications, and specifically interactive digital media.
- Proficiency in English both written and oral. Knowledge of another UN language would be an asset.
