Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Director of Operations (D.O.) is a key position within MISFA Management structure. He/she will serve as the main liaison with MISFA partner institutions (MFIs, Banks, other financial institutions) and will be responsible to lead contract negotiations with MISFA Partners, maintain effective fiduciary oversight of MISFA investments and to take the lead in promoting new initiatives to expand financial services.

The D.O. will report to the Managing Director of MISFA. He/she will be supported by Manager (Technical Support Department), and Manager (SME Department), and work closely with other senior managers (Director Finance and Director External Relations) within the organization.

The specific tasks related to this position include, but are not limited to:

- Take the lead in managing MISFA’s working relationship with implementing microfinance partners (MFPs) and Banks
- Ensure that Manager (Technical Support Department) is able to effectively perform key duties related to:

* Monitoring performance of MISFA partner MFIs
* Capacity assessment of MISFA partner MFIs and facilitate customized technical support
* Appraisal and recommendation of new investment proposals to MISFA Managing Director and Board

- Ensure that SME Manager is able to effectively perform key duties related to:

* SME investments in MFIs, Banks, etc.
* Capacity building of SME staff of MFIs, Banks, etc.

- Responsible for managing personnel issues in SME and Technical Support Departments, including hiring and training of new employees, monitoring the evaluation process and developing goals and objectives for both the departments.
- Be a part of the MISFA Senior Management Team and assist MD in coordinating activities with other Departments

Qualifications required:

- Bachelor’s degree from a reputed University; Master’s degree preferred
- Sound knowledge of microfinance products and delivery mechanisms; experience in senior management at a reputed MFI preferred
- Proven ability to nurture a smooth working relationship with varied stakeholders (MFIs, Banks, Technical Assistance Providers, International Donors, Research Agencies, etc)
- Experience working in South Asia preferred
- Proficiency in written and spoken English

Compensation:

Compensation will be determined according to the qualifications, relevant experience and skills of the selected candidate. It will be at par with current salary standards for professionals in Afghanistan.
