Job Description

Background

The United Nations Department of Field Support Communications and Information Technology Service (UN DFS-CITS) is charged with the management and administration of all the department’s IT and communication systems on a global basis. The Information Systems Section delivers applications that satisfy the quantitative and qualitative requirements of peacekeeping missions, missions administered by the Department and United Nations operations worldwide.

UN DFS-CITS is charged with the provision of continuous and reliable voice, data and video services throughout all field missions.

UN DFS-CITS wishes to establish a functional group to technical support for System Development and Governance to enhance its ability to deliver ICT systems to field missions. It would be responsible for ensuring that governance requirements are met, the development and proliferation of systems is managed, duplication is minimized and that the Department is prepared for the implementation of enterprise systems.

UNOPS has been requested by DFS-CITS to assist in implementing the activity.

Under the supervision of the Information Systems Development Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for:

Duties and Responsibilities

- Compiling, summarizing and presenting basic information/data on specific programmes/project and related issues;
- Assisting with the review of project documents, cost plans/budgets, verification of availability of funds, ensuring necessary approval and entry in computerized systems;
- Assisting with monitoring status of project proposals and receipt of relevant documentation for review and approval;
- Assisting with preparing status reports and tracking project staffing requirements and expenditures;
- Assisting with the production of financial reports to review and analyze data with respect to budget performance, analyzing variances between approved budgets and actual expenditures in terms of staff and non-staff requirements;
- Provide general office assistance, set up and maintain files/records, organize meetings, operational travel, etc
Required Selection Criteria

Competencies

Professionalism: Good knowledge of UN Staff rules and regulations and financial regulations.

Planning and Organizing: Effective organizational skills.

Communications: Ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate effectively orally.

Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills and ability to maintain working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity, including gender balance.

Education/Experience/Language

Education:

Secondary education (or equivalent). First degree preferable.

Work Experience:

A minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience within the UN system in the field of finance, accounting, human resources, administrative services or in other related fields.
