JOB SUMMARY: This is a full-time position teaching in our Animal Science Program and Agriculture & Natural Resources Department. This individual will deliver instruction in the classroom, labs, and farm lab. Instructional areas may include but are not limited to: Swine Management, Ag Finance, Survey of Animal Industry, Ag Leadership, Veterinary Pharmacology, Companion Animals, Food of Animal Origin, Animal Anatomy and Physiology and Health, Veterinary Assisting, and other courses which may be offered by the department. The opportunity to develop and implement a program in Food and Meat Science will be available. Responsibilities include: actively participating as a team player with a focus on student learning; management of the College swine enterprises; placing, coordinating, and supervising students enrolled in employment experience; assisting with the development of appropriate enterprise reports; facilitating program related activities; student academic advising, student assessment, and related functions. Other duties may include: livestock judging coach; student organization advisor; maintaining, updating, and evaluating the Animal Science curriculum; student recruitment; budget development; program promotion and development of community relations and partnerships. This individual will maintain positive working relationships with the Dean, Department Chair, faculty, departmental support staff, and other members of the College and community. A full-time teaching load of 15 credit hours per term is typical.
QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Education, or related field and three years of recent relevant work experience required. Preference will be given to applicants that have a Masters degree in Animal or Food Science. Must demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge and skills regarding technical and applied methods of agriculture; successful experience in livestock management; competency and working knowledge of the computer and its application to animal agriculture; capacity to teach practical applications and successful team work experience. Preferences include college teaching experience.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Nine-month contractual position beginning August of 2008. Salary will be commensurate with the applicants education and experience and will include a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; personal and sick leave; and a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA-CREF (defined contribution).
