Job Description

Short-term contract - May to September 2008
£33,000 pro rata - 18 hours per week

The Millennium Development Goals have galvanised efforts to address the needs of the world’s poorest people. With a target date of 2015, the UN will meet with world leaders on 25 September to assess progress. Working with partner agencies, Oxfam will be there. And we need you to make sure our demands are heard loud and clear.

Be challenged

How much can be achieved in four months? Here’s your chance to find out. Working with our partner agencies, you’ll help develop detailed policy demands for governments and other international actors to agree action plans covering everything from education and health to climate change and agriculture. Leading up to September, you’ll amp up campaign work through direct lobbying, and supporting other colleagues on public mobilisation and media exposure. You’ll also liaise with stakeholders across Oxfam GB and International to influence European governments. Come the 25th you’ll be in New York, putting the pressure on UN delegates and politicians.

Be involved

The UN Meeting in September is a huge opportunity to get firm commitments from world leaders on a number of key poverty issues. To make the most of it, we need someone with a strong background in development policy and a solid grasp of the MDGs. Comfortable lobbying at a senior level, you have a talent for getting your point across clearly and persuasively. And with experience working across various agencies, you have a reputation for diplomacy and a proven record of meeting deadlines and targets.
Be Oxfam

A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. It’s not their problem. It’s ours too. And with the right support, we can stop poverty and suffering in their tracks. More than 8,000 people already commit their time and talents to our humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
